Our institute motivates us to raise money and awareness for Earth Month in a number of ways and they support and encourage any new ideas and contributions from students.
For example, we have “Jeans Tuesdays,” where students are permitted to wear jeans for a minimum donation of $5. We also host bake sales and cook-offs, which provide a sense of unity while we raise funds. In addition, we are encouraged to raise awareness to our guests by educating them about Earth Month and explaining how Aveda strives to reduce our carbon footprint in the ways we make our products and the resources we employ.
I think it’s important for Aveda to focus on Earth Month because we pride ourselves in how we give back. Because we tap into natural resources, it’s important for us to do all we can to replenish those resources and sustain the communities that we work with.
The money we raise goes toward various causes such as clean water, which is an increasing issue. Millions around the world go without clean water for drinking, cooking and daily living, and we are currently raising money and awareness for the cause.

How much do you know about Aveda? “Our mission at Aveda is to care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways in which we give back to society. At Aveda, we strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility, not just in the world of beauty, but around the world.” What does this mean? It means the culture of Aveda, steeped in the 5,000 year old Ayruveda tradition, is about taking care of our environment as well as ourselves. One way in which we give back to society is our Earth Month fundraising. Each institute raises money in different ways to contribute. Here at AIO, we have many different fundraisers, culminating in our Spring Fashion show put on by the students and instructors. All of the proceeds go toward Aveda’s social responsibility programs that support community groups and organizations that are taking action to build a healthier and more sustainable future for everyone .
Our partnering with Greengrants are making a difference for clean water. We are providing small grants around the globe to make clean water a right and a reality worldwide from Nepal to Kenya to Guatemala. Our Director actually got to go to India this past year and see some of the villages that have been directly impacted by our water warriors!
So when you think Aveda, think culture…and social responsibility, not just great hair and skin care!
