We would like to recognize Ashley Bonavito for being a passionate and dedicated educator here at Aveda Institute Tampa Bay. She lives the Aveda mission and is always eager to share her talent with her students while educating them during their journey through beauty school. Get to know her better by reading below.

Why did you become a hairdresser?

“I’ve been interested in the beauty industry since I was a kid. My mom has been a Cosmetologist for 20+ years so I definitely grew up around it, I remember going to school with her! I was always the one who was experimenting with friends hair and makeup as well as my own. I love the feeling you get when you make someone feel like the best version of themselves.”

What made you come to Aveda?

“My Cosmetology education was basic, I went to a vocational school and didn’t get much hands on experience. When I was working in the salon I made friends with a new stylist who went to Aveda Institute San Fransisco. I was so impressed with what she was doing after only a few months behind the chair that I knew I wanted to be apart of it some day.”

What is your background?

“After graduating High School I moved to Orlando to pursue a career in journalism. I knew I wanted to go to Cosmetology school but figured I would go after I was done with traditional college. After a year I knew I didn’t want to waste any more time and decided to go after what I was passionate about. I started assisting in a salon while in school so I’ve been working in salons since 2008. I’ve worked with a few different brands; Paul Mitchell, Redkin, and L’oreal Professional. I’ve been with Aveda since 2012 and won’t be looking back! I’ve also done some editorial stuff with one of my best friends who is in the Industry in NYC and was published in magazines for working with Sara Canning who was on the Vampire Diaries.”

What is your favorite thing to teach?

“I love to teach styling. An amazing blow out or some tousled waves alone can completely change someones look and personality. I love how different styles can empower you.”

What are your hobbies?

“Outside of doing hair?! I enjoy gardening, I have the cutest dog ever- Gozer, spending time with friends, anything on the water, cooking, baking, reading, listening to records and live music, traveling, and my next pursuit will be getting a motorcycle!”
